Siberian Irises
by Clyde Foles
28"x 20"
I had the good fortune to be raised in the visually rich culture of south Louisiana where I began drawing at an early age. My mother's encouragement stimulated me to continue drawing. As a practical application of this talent I studied architecture at Louisiana State University and then transferred to Art Center College of Design in California where I graduated with a B.S. with Honors in Industrial Design. At Art Center I was exposed to a great variety of extremely high quality art work and teaching; in particular, as part of the curriculum, I studied watercolor under an outstanding teacher.
After working as an industrial designer and art college teacher I am now making more time to focus my energy on my core talent of drawing and painting.
In this painting I tried to capture the image of a cluster of Siberian Irises with the forest as a background. This is combination is something I often see while working in the garden in June.

Daylilies
by Clyde Foles
28"x 20"
In this image "Daylilies" I wanted the careful delination of flowers and buds to dominate. I was especially interested in showing the various stages of the green buds. Drawing and watercolor are both powerful mediums of expression, it's a challenge to use these tools to honor the and record the subject.

White Lilies
by Clyde Foles
21"x 29"
This particular image is an interpretation of one of the lilies from our garden. The flowers of the garden are both beautiful and transient. I tried to capture a moment in the life cycle of this particular lily. I tried to emphasize its regal nature, but it is not at all an idealized image. Drawing and watercolor are both powerful mediums of expression, it's a challenge to use these tools to honor the and record the subject.
